French Foreign Minister Barrot plans to visit Ukraine’s north-east

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot is planning to visit one of the north-eastern oblasts bordering Russia during his visit to Ukraine.

Details: At the beginning of the speech, Barrot noted that Ukraine is fighting not only for its independence and territorial integrity but also holds the front line that “divides Europe and Vladimir Putin’s Russia, divides freedom and oppression”.

Quote: “The next day, I will travel to Ukraine’s north-east to meet with the Ukrainian military, who are standing up to the Russians and making every effort to make the operation in Kursk Oblast a success.” [Quote based on Ukrainian simultaneous translation – ed.]

More details: Barrot did not specify which of the oblasts he was referring to – Chernihiv, Kharkiv, or Sumy.

Background:

  • Barrot’s visit is his first to Kyiv since the start of Michel Barnier’s government.
  • Before that, Barrot and Sybiha met for the first time in Paris during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s European tour with his Victory Plan.
