Details: “Staff estimates a winter energy deficit of 3-4 GW, consistent with estimates of other stakeholders, with downside risks prevailing due to missile attacks and seasonal factors,” the review says.

The review added that the Ukrainian authorities have an ambitious goal of building additional power facilities so as to be able to produce an extra 1 GW of electricity and increasing the amount of imports from the European Union to 3 GW.

Background:

  • Ukraine has ordered more transformers than the entire consumption capacity of Poland.
  • DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, stated that while efforts are underway to deal with the aftermath of the latest Russian missile strike, it is challenging to make any forecasts regarding recovery. However, they emphasised that Ukraine has all the necessary resources to repair the power grid.
