The volume of Ukraine’s agricultural product exports increased by a quarter year-on-year, while their value rose by US$1.4 billion.

The main reason for this growth was the resumption of maritime transport. As of Wednesday, 89% of the total agricultural product exports were carried out by sea.

On land, exporters prefer rail transport, with only 2% moved by trucks. At the same time, 80% of all imported agricultural products entered Ukraine by road, about 18% by sea, and nearly 2% by rail, mainly related to imports from European countries.

The largest share of exports belongs to grain crops, totalling 42.3 million tonnes worth US$7.1 billion. Another significant component of agricultural product exports is oilseed seeds and fruit, totalling 5 million tonnes, valued at US$2.2 billion.

Meanwhile, Ukraine imported 978,800 tonnes of agricultural products worth US$1.7 billion. Nearly half of all imports consisted of edible fruit and nuts, totalling 468,000 tonnes valued at $563.8 million. Vegetables were also imported, totalling 194,200 tonnes (US$246.6 million), and oilseed seeds amounted to 50,200 tonnes (US$346.5 million).

Background: In January-September 2024, Ukraine increased the physical volume of goods exports by 36.2% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 99.3 million tonnes.
