Details: Answering a question about the possibility of Modi mediating talks between Ukraine and Russia, Zelenskyy stated that the Indian PM could assist in organising the second Peace Summit.

Quote: “We had a conversation with Prime Minister Modi and discussed the Peace Summit platform. I believe we could hold the second Peace Summit in any respected capital, and India would certainly be a fitting choice. Prime Minister Modi could make this possible, organising the summit with the right preparation on our side.”

Details: At the same time, Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is open to hearing proposals from various countries, including India, the European Union, African nations, Brazil, and China, but “only based on our framework, as the war is on our soil”.

Background:

  • On 23 August, Indian PM Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine, where Ukraine and India agreed on four cooperation documents.
  • Modi also informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he had met with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin the month before and attempted to persuade him to end the war.
