Details: As Tykhyi stressed, Kyiv “consistently and firmly” supports the strict adherence to the principle of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine”.
“The war is on Ukrainian soil, so Ukraine will determine the criteria for a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace,” he added.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that a fair end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine with respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, international law, and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter is in the interests of all peace-oriented states.
Background:
- Earlier in the day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he would soon meet with the French president, the UK prime minister, the NATO secretary general and the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries to discuss transatlantic cooperation and the war in Ukraine.
- This comes amid media speculation that Trump’s entourage is considering the idea of freezing the front line with a demilitarised zone and a 20-year moratorium on Ukraine’s NATO membership to fulfil his promise to “end the war quickly” in Ukraine.
- In this context, EU leaders at a meeting in Budapest discussed the possibility of continuing to provide military assistance to Ukraine if Donald Trump decides to withdraw US support.
