Details: The German chancellor said that his conversation with Trump was “perhaps surprisingly very detailed and friendly”.
He said that he had been discussing the war in Ukraine with the US president-elect for “some time” and had the impression that Trump “has a more nuanced position than is often assumed”. Scholz did not explain what he meant.
Asked whether Donald Trump would try to make a deal with Russia to avert a war over the heads of Ukrainians, the German chancellor said that the US president-elect had given “no signs” that he would do so.
Germany, in turn, will not agree to peace under dictate, Scholz assured.
