Ukrainian foreign ministry calls security warnings issued by embassies in Kyiv “information overreaction”

Pravda Ukraine

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the shift to remote work by the US Embassy and some other foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine as “information overreaction”.

Source: Heorhii Tykhyi, Foreign Ministry spokesman, as cited by European Pravda

Details: Tykhyi noted that the threat of strikes from the aggressor state has been a daily reality for Ukrainians for over 1,000 days.

Quote: “On this 1,001st day of the full-scale invasion, the threat of Russian strikes remains just as relevant as it has been for the past thousand days. We believe it would be appropriate for our partners to respond on the 1,001st day in the same way as they did during the previous thousand days, without any additional information overreaction.”

He urged all Ukrainian citizens to remain vigilant, heed air-raid warnings, and seek shelter in case of danger, just as they would during any Russian missile strike threat.

Tykhyi added that Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry remains in constant contact with partners when it comes to potential security threats.

Background:

  • The US urged its citizens in Ukraine to exercise maximum caution due to the risk of a large-scale airstrike by Russia on 20 November, with the US Embassy switching to remote operations.
  • The Spanish Embassy later announced its closure, and for security reasons, the embassies of Greece and Italy also decided to shut down temporarily.
