The American television and radio company CNN has outlined the key aspects of the peace plan proposed back in April by Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy for the Russian-Ukrainian war. The plan provides for the complete lifting of sanctions against Russia.

Details: According to the article, Kellogg proposes to partially ease sanctions against Russia in exchange for an agreement to cease fire, freeze the front line, and introduce a demilitarised zone in Ukraine. If Russia signs a peace agreement, sanctions will be lifted altogether.
Kellogg’s plan does not imply that Ukraine will give up the territories occupied by Russia, but their return will be only through diplomatic means. Ukraine will have to recognise that the return of the occupied lands “would require a future diplomatic breakthrough”, which is likely to happen after Putin leaves office.
Trump’s special envoy says that his plan should first and foremost become “a formal US policy to seek a ceasefire and negotiated settlement”.
Kellogg’s peace plan also states that future US aid – likely in the form of a loan to Ukraine – will depend on the progress of peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow. The US will arm Ukraine to the extent that it can defend itself and stop any further Russian offensives before and after any peace deal.
According to the author of the article, Kellogg is of the opinion that the United States does not need to be involved in another conflict, and its own arms stockpile has been reduced due to the assistance to Ukraine, which leaves the United States potentially vulnerable in a possible conflict with China over Taiwan.
He also believes that Ukraine’s membership in NATO should be postponed indefinitely and offered only in exchange for “a comprehensive and verifiable peace deal with security guarantees”.
