Russian troops seek to partially encircle Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian forces say

The Russians, leveraging their superiority in assets and personnel, are actively advancing near Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, aiming to capture nearby villages to partially encircle the city.

Quote from Trehubov: “There are a number of small settlements there [near Pokrovsk – ed.]. There is Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Promin, Novyi Trud, etc. The Russians are trying to grab hold of every house there and advance further.”
Details: Trehubov pointed out that Russian forces are attempting to partially encircle Pokrovsk and gain control of a forested area that serves as a supply route to the city.
“I wouldn’t say they’ve succeeded so far, though they’re trying hard and have significant resources at their disposal. First and foremost, in terms of personnel, technical and logistical resources,” he stressed.
Background: On 11 January, Ukrainian forces reported that Russian troops had opted against a direct assault on Pokrovsk, instead attempting to bypass the city from the south to the west, aiming to advance towards Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
