Quote: “Although the plant had been completely destroyed earlier, the enemy attacked it again last night. Fortunately there are no casualties.”
Details: Following the attack, the emergency services began clearing away the debris.
The cumulative losses from prior attacks have now topped €250 million, and that figure is expected to rise further as damage assessments continue.
Centrenergo’s thermal power stations have endured over 50 attacks since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In spring 2024, Centrenergo was the only company that was forced to totally shut down power generation as a result of Russia’s large-scale attacks.
Background:
- Centrenergo’s Trypillia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) was completely destroyed in a large-scale early morning Russian missile attack on 10-11 April 2024. Trypillia TPP provided electricity to almost three million people and was the largest electricity supplier in Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Cherkasy oblasts. Centrenergo consists of three thermal power plants, which comprise all of the company’s assets: Trypillia TPP in Kyiv Oblast, Zmiivska TPP in Kharkiv Oblast, and Vuhlehirska TPP in Donetsk Oblast.
- Zmiivska TPP was completely destroyed on 22 March 2024. Russian troops occupied Vuhlehirska TPP on 25 July 2022. Thus, Centrenergo has lost 100% of its generation capacity.
- In mid-May 2024, it was reported that debris at the Zmiivska and Trypillia TPPs was still being cleared away after missile strikes on 22 March and 11 April.
