22 bodies from mass burial in Ukraine’s Izium remain unidentified

As of January 2025, the bodies of 22 people discovered in a mass burial in the city of Izium, Kharkiv Oblast, in September 2022, remain unidentified.

Details: Following the liberation of the city of Izium in September 2022, a mass burial was found in a forested area near the cemetery on Shakespeare Street. Emergency workers and law enforcement exhumed over 450 remains, which were sent to the city of Kharkiv for forensic examinations to determine the causes of death and identify the people who were killed.
Quote: “Twenty-two bodies remain unidentified. They were initially recorded as ‘unknown woman’ or ‘unknown man’, as there is no information about relatives or people who could provide the necessary evidence to complete the identification process. For this reason, forensic examinations for these individuals cannot yet be completed.”
Details: The hromada has appealed to local residents for help in finding relatives or providing any information about the people who were killed.
