Zelenskyy: Europe must become stronger and be able to defend itself

In his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed that it is time for Europe to take its destiny into its own hands and become stronger and more capable of being as valuable an ally for the United States as the United States is for Europe.

Details: Zelenskyy noted that Europe “cannot be a third priority” for the allies in the future and should become as important and valuable an ally for the United States as the United States is for Europe.

We are deeply grateful to Europe for all the support it’s given our country during this war. But will President Trump listen to Europe, or will he negotiate with Russia and China without Europe?
Europe needs to learn how to fully take care of itself – so that the world cannot afford to ignore it… Europe must establish itself as a strong global player. An indispensable player,” Zelenskyy said, probably referencing mentions of the US as an “indispensable nation”.
Zelenskyy noted that this turning point can be perceived as a problem but also as an opportunity and noted that this applies to security, the economy, and the development of the latest technologies.
Background: In her speech, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned of the risk of a “global race to the bottom” using economic instruments such as sanctions, export controls and tariffs.
