Assistant of Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief dies from grenade explosion near Kyiv

A soldier has died as a result of careless handling of a grenade in the village of Chaiky in Kyiv Oblast.

Quote: “A 39-year old serviceman has died in his home in the village of Chaiky as a result of careless handling of ammunition. His 13-year old son has been severely injured and taken to hospital.

The police are investigating the incident. The case was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under the Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of armament, ammunition or explosives). The man’s wife and daughter were also at home at the time of the incident. According to the preliminary reports, they have not been injured.”

Details: According to the sources of Ukrainska Pravda, the deceased is Hennadii Chestiakov, assistant of Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The source said that police officers found five more grenades while searching the house.
