Details: Following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Olha Rudnieva co-founded the Superhumans rehabilitation centre in Lviv, where Ukrainians injured as a result of the Russian Federation’s war receive prostheses and rehabilitation aid.
The woman stated that she initiated the campaign to support those wounded during the war. Many troops lost limbs in the war, making them “victims” in the eyes of society, but Olha Rudnieva believes they are “supermen” who need assistance.
Quote: “Resilience is to wake up morning after morning to air sirens and keep fighting for your country. It’s rediscovering your ‘what for?’ instead of being stuck at ‘why me?’ It’s finding ways to do more, having less every day,” the Superhumans founder shared her thoughts.
During the first two years of its operation, over a thousand people used the center’s services.
The Superhumans Centre and Olha Rudnieva have been nominated for Ukrainska Pravda’s Best Social Project in 2023.
This year, the founder of the centre was named one of the winners of UP 100.The Power of Women and UP100 in the Society category.
Olha Olefirenko was included in the list of the most significant women after realising the desire of her military father, who died on the front lines in 2015.
At first she bought cattle and started her own farm, but experienced financial difficulties and was forced to sell all the animals.
However, the Ukrainian refused to renounce her father’s dreams. In 2023, Olha developed a business strategy that was funded by the Ukrainian Veterans Fund.
The woman restarted her farm’s activity and is now focussing on modernisation and the implementation of new agricultural technologies. Furthermore, Olha produces jobs in the community, where she is regarded as an inspiration and a leader, according to the list’s compilers.
The BBC 100 Women project began in 2013. Every year, it selects notable women from around the world to be featured in interviews, stories, and films.
The BBC’s 2023 list included Oksana Zabuzhko, a writer and publicist, Iryna Stavchuk, a climate policy expert, and Olena Rozvadovska, the founder of the Voices of Children humanitarian foundation.
