The presidents of the United States and Poland are the foreign leaders most trusted by Ukrainians, a new survey has found.

Details: The list of Western leaders most trusted by Ukrainians was topped by US President Joe Biden, with 82% of respondents saying they “completely trust” him or have “some trust” in him.

Second place, despite the recent difficulties in Ukraine’s relations with Poland, went to Polish president Andrzej Duda, with 77%.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who are trusted by 74% of respondents, tied in third and fourth place.

Next on the list, some way down from the top four, are NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg (66%), Moldovan President Maia Sandu (62%), German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (61%) and French President Emmanuel Macron (55%).

Only two of the leaders on this list – Biden and von der Leyen – have maintained roughly the same level of trust over the past year, while attitudes toward the rest have changed significantly, either for the better or for the worse.

Polish President Andrzej Duda has slipped down in the ratings: last year, he inspired by far the most trust among Ukrainians abroad, ahead of the rest by a large margin, but he has lost nine percentage points since then.

Meanwhile, Maia Sandu has increased her trust rating among Ukrainians by 12 percentage points over the course of the year.

Ukrainians’ trust in Scholz and Macron has increased at an identical rate.

Reminder: In January this year, Ukrainians gave Andrzej Duda a standing ovation when he was on the streets of Lviv.
