Biden on new Polish PM’s government coming to power in Poland: I think it’s very good
Pravda Ukraine
US President Joe Biden believes that the changes in Poland’s political environment following the coming to power of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government are positive.
Source: Biden, whose response was tweeted by Polish Radio correspondent Marek Wałkuski, as reported by European Pravda
Details: The correspondent pointed out that when he asked Biden to comment on the political changes in Poland and the coming to power of a government more sympathetic to the European Union, he replied: “I think it’s very good.”
Background: Earlier, Polish Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar took a rare step and announced the dismissal of Deputy Prosecutor General Dariusz Barski, who is considered loyal to Bodnar’s predecessor, the head of the right-wing Solidarity Poland party Zbigniew Ziobro.
Among other things, before his resignation last year, Ziobro ordered the transfer of most of his prosecutorial powers to the national prosecutor, i.e. his deputy. In this way, he likely hoped to retain his influence on decision-making.
The situation in Poland’s prosecutor’s office is another step by the Tusk government to rid the institutions of the previous Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (Law and Justice or PiS) government. Last month, for example, he dismissed the PiS-friendly leadership of state media.
Prior to that, the Polish prime minister said his government would disclose information about financial abuses in many state institutions involving the former PiS ruling party.
