Borrel after Russian large-scale attack: No need to restrict Ukraine’s use of Western weapons

After the large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine on 26 August, EU diplomat Josep Borrell once again called for the lifting of restrictions on the use of Western weapons to strike Russian military targets.

Details: Borrell stressed that lifting restrictions on the use of weapons against the Russian military involved in the aggression against Ukraine, in accordance with international law, would strengthen Ukrainian self-defence, protect lives, and reduce destruction in Ukraine.

“Russia escalated its aggression with renewed massive attacks across Ukraine targeting civilian infrastructure, including hydroelectric stations, and causing casualties,” Borrell wrote.
He also noted that Ukraine needs air defence immediately.
Borrell added that he would discuss the issue with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and EU foreign ministers at an informal meeting on Thursday.
