Dagestan reports UAV attack, airport suspends its operation

Sergei Melikov, Head of Dagestan [a federal subject of the Russian Federation], has reported an attempted drone attack on facilities in Kaspiysk on 30 November. The Makhachkala Airport has suspended its operation.

Quote from Melikov: “Early reports indicate another unsuccessful attempt to attack facilities in Kaspiysk using an unmanned aerial vehicle. There are no reports of damage or casualties as of now.”

Details: News agencies report that operations at the Makhachkala Airport have been suspended due to the UAV threat, with the Kovyor (Carpet) plan being activated. [The Kovyor plan is an airport operational safety procedure for airport services and personnel when an unidentified object appears in the sky – ed.]

Russia claimed the attack by 11 Ukrainian drones on the night of 29-30 November.

As usual, Russian officials claimed that all 11 UAVs were downed: eight over Belgorod Oblast and three over the Black Sea.

Local authorities have not provided any information about damage as of now.
