The guests’ goalkeeper had to get the ball out of the net after Dynamo’s Vladyslav Vanat scored in the 18th minute, but the referee ruled the forward offside. However, this did not shake the winning ambitions of the Rangers.
Andrii Yarmolenko opened the scoring at the end of the first half, heading the ball into the net after a shot from Vanat. So the Kyiv team went into halftime with a one-goal lead.
Cyriel Dessers headed the ball into the far corner after a cross from the left flank, but Dynamo’s goalkeeper Heorhii Bushchan made a spectacular save, getting the ball out of the bottom corner.
The runner-ups of the Ukrainian Premier League were about to win the game, but Rangers pulled out a draw in the last minute of stoppage time thanks to a goal from Dessers.
The second match will take place on 13 August at Hampden Park in Glasgow. The starting whistle will blow at 21:45 Kyiv time.
Previously, Dynamo Kyiv kicked Partizan Belgrade FC out of the tournament in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
