Quote: “We have allocated  €700,000 for mental health care for military refugees and for the integration of refugee communities,” said Mändmaa.

As the Chancellor said, the Ministry of Social Affairs, together with its subordinate executive institutions, has also helped Ukrainians fleeing Russian aggression in Estonia in other ways: for example, Ukrainians who have been granted international protection have been offered temporary housing and comprehensive assistance in finding accommodation in Estonia.

“Over the course of two years, together with the Social Insurance Board, we provided short-term accommodation to 25,000 refugees. We also offered comprehensive assistance in finding a permanent place of residence in Estonia. In cooperation with the Health Insurance Fund, we created opportunities to treat those wounded in Ukraine on an equal footing with those insured in Estonia,” Mändmaa listed. “In addition, we have also offered mental health and psychosocial support services to Ukrainian refugees.

Reminder:

  • Interior Minister of Estonia Lauri Läänemets has clarified his previous statements regarding the likelihood of extraditing men of conscription age to Ukraine.
  • Läänemets noted that his words that Estonia would help Ukraine find men of conscription age had been “slightly distorted”.
  • “It is important to emphasise unequivocally: I, as the Minister of Internal Affairs, or the Estonian state, certainly have no goal to start driving Ukrainian men of conscription age who live here to the front,” he wrote.
  • Last week, Lauri Läänemets said that Estonia is ready to help Ukraine mobilise its citizens if necessary if the two countries sign a relevant agreement.
