DJ Tapolsky, a Ukrainian soldier and DJ, played a music set next to the I’m Fine installation at the Burning Man festival of independent art. The video on the Ukrainska Pravda YouTube channel has gotten 100,000 views in two days.
Besides playing music, Anatolii Topolskyi also compiled the responses of his family, friends and fellow soldiers to the question “How are you?”, “What do you want in life most?”, “What do you dream of?”.
“I would’ve never imagined that people would sympathise this much. Americans support Ukraine a lot, and share their thoughts. Many of them cried, even grown men. It was something incredible, our installation was one of the most remarkable at the festival, and I really hope that my set helped highlight it,” Topolskyi revealed.
The installation near which the DJ-set was recorded was created by artist Oleksii Sai and producer Vitalii Deineha. The “I’m Fine” caption became the symbol of Ukrainian resilience, showing all the guests of the festival from all over the world the tragedy of war.
For reference: Burning Man is an annual festival of independent art held in the Black-Rock desert in Nevada, US. It was created in 1986 when a group of people built a wooden scarecrow and set it on fire on the summer solstice day. This event turned into a large-scale event which now unites people from all over the world. An improvised metropolis is being created by the participants during a few weeks.
The guests actively participate in the creation of art installations, performances and other projects. The culmination of the event is the burning of a big wooden statue in the form of a person.
In 2024 the festival took place from 25 August to 2 September.
