Details: The Finnish foreign minister stated that the only restriction is that weapons must be used in accordance with international law.

Her Swedish counterpart stressed that the use of weapons is not limited to the territory of Ukraine. They can also be used to strike Russian territory.

Background:

  • In recent weeks, Ukraine has been calling on its allies to lift all restrictions on strikes using their long-range weapons in Russia, explaining that this would allow Ukraine to target aircraft that launch cruise missiles and guided aerial bombs.
  • On 10 September, US President Joe Biden hinted that the US might lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons in Russia.
  • This issue is reportedly planned to be discussed during a meeting between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden at the White House this Friday.
