Fire breaks out at Uralmashzavod plant in Russia’s Yekaterinburg, witnesses heard explosion first – photo, video

A fire broke out on an area of 4,000 square metres in a turbine hall at the Uralmashzavod plant in Russia’s city of Yekaterinburg on 1 April. Before that, witnesses heard an explosion.

Details: The Russian Emergencies Ministry reported that the roof of a machine hall caught fire on the territory of an industrial site in Yekaterinburg, with a fire area of 4,000 square metres.

Local media outlets noted that eyewitnesses heard that something exploded first, followed by smoke.

The plant itself claimed that the building where the fire occurred did not belong to them. “It is not our building that is on fire, it does not belong to us. It is located at the Uralmashzavod industrial site, but far from our production facilities, and we do not own this building,” they said.

The cause of the fire has not been established. No casualties were reported.

For reference: Uralmashzavod is a Russian machine-building company based in the city of Yekaterinburg. It manufactures equipment for metallurgy, mining and energy sectors.
