The first underground school is being constructed in the city of Zaporizhzhia – it will become the sixth fortified educational facility building in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Details: The construction works began a week and a half ago.
The school will become a part of the local Sichovyi Сollegium known as “one of the best educational facilities of the region”.
The shelter will fit 500 schoolchildren, allowing it to educate 1,000 students in two shifts.
The building is expected to not only be secure but also interactive and “with an inspiring design”. Ivan Fedorov, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast State Administration, believes this will motivate the children to go to school.
“There are almost 400 children in the Sichovyi Сollegium, about half of them study remotely, since there is no shelter in the school building. It’s great that during such hard times the authorities helped us solve the main issue and give the children the opportunity to study safely,” said Valentyna Yershova, the school’s principal.
Yarosalv Motrych, father of one of the students, said that the opportunity to attend school will facilitate communication between the children and help not to lose the new generation.
The underground school of the Sichovyi Сollegium is expected to open for the upcoming school year.
In total, the Zaporizhzhia city authorities plan to provide 50,000 students with the opportunity to start a new school year in classrooms, Ivan Fedorov adds.
Background: In early April, the construction of the first underground school for 900 children was finished in the city of Kharkiv.
