First underground school in Kharkiv begins its work – photos

The first underground school, which was built in the Industrial district of the city of Kharkiv, held its first full-fledged lessons for children on 13 May.

According to the Kharkiv City Council, 230 children started studying at this educational institution. The underground school will be able to accommodate 900 children.
Olena Zbytska, the head of the Department of Education of the Industrial district of Kharkiv, reports that the educational process will be carried out in two shifts in a mixed format: some children will study full-time, and some remotely.
The city council noted that primary school children will have three lessons and high-schoolers will have four.
“We tried to create conditions similar to those at a regular school. We have classrooms, a resource room for meetings with a psychologist, and a teaching workshop where teachers gather between lessons. There is also a buffet and a medical office,” said Zbytska.
Background:
- The construction of this school was completed in early April. The premises were built in compliance with all safety requirements, and 20 classrooms were equipped to provide a comfortable learning environment for school children.
- Recently, it became known that a trial school day was conducted. Within its framework, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine employees told children about the rules of mine safety and ways to recognise dangerous objects.
