Details: The soldier was killed on 24 February 2024 during a combat mission in Donetsk Oblast. He was 43 at the time of his death.
Tsap joined the Ukrainian defence forces after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, where he was a combat medic. Prior to that, he worked as a coach at the First League team Odesa-2, with which he became a champion in the 2021/22 season.
“Mykhailo has devoted many years of his life to handball: he was a multiple champion of Ukraine, winner of the Israeli Cup, former player of the national team of Ukraine and coach of the junior national teams of Ukraine.
He played for the handball club Portovyk, Zaporizhzhia’s Motor and ZTR clubs, Israel’s Asa and Romania’s Kelerashi clubs. But the main goal of recent years has been training children to play handball in the hromada,” the statement said. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a town, village or several villages and their adjacent territories – ed.]
The memorial ceremony for coach will take place on 20 November.
