In a Facebook post shared on Tuesday, the chain store – owned by mainland conglomerate China Resources Pharmaceutical Group Limited – said all of their shops in Hong Kong will close from November 8. The company said they will strive to protect customers’ rights and told those with cash vouchers to use them as soon as possible.

“Due to the impact of external uncertainties and various operational challenges, after careful consideration, CR Care has decided to close all its stores in Hong Kong on November 8, 2024,” the Chinese Facebook post read.

According to CR Care’s website, the chain retailer combines “traditional Chinese wellness wisdom with modern science” to provide health products and services. The chain stocks goods included herbal supplements, Chinese and Western health products, vitamins and personal care items.

Starting Tuesday, CR Care will stop accepting new members and will not issue points to existing members when they make a purchase. The membership scheme will also officially terminate on November 8.

Vouchers issued by CR Care will expire after November 7. Unused coupons will not be refunded, the company said.

Hong Kong’s retail sector is still reeling from the impact of strict Covid-19 measures, which were only scrapped in early 2023. Shuttered shopfronts and rental posters have become a common sight across the city.

In August, Hong Kong’s provisional estimate for the value of total sales that month stood at HK$29.2 billion, marking a drop of 10.1 per cent compared with the same month in 2023. Taking the first eight months of 2024 taken together, it was provisionally estimated that the value of total retail sales decreased by 7.7 per cent compared with the same period in 2023.
