Airline HK Express will launch its free flight giveaway at 10.30 am on Tuesday, with round-trip tickets to destinations in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan on offer – the latest phase of a campaign aimed at rebooting tourism after years of Covid travel restrictions.
Open to people living in Hong Kong, HK Express’s campaign is giving away 21,626 complimentary tickets to 19 Asian destinations from July 11 to July 24 on a first come, first served basis. Those who succeed in booking tickets will be expected to pay all taxes, surcharges, and any other relevant fees.
Flights must be booked through a dedicated webpage.
The destinations are: Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports, Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Takamatsu, Kagoshima, and Okinawa, in Japan; Seoul, Busan, and Jeju in South Korea; Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, in Thailand; Da Nang, and Nha Trang, in Vietnam; and Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, in Taiwan.
The campaign is part of the Airport Authority Hong Kong’s “World of Winners” promotion. In all, flights for half a million tourists and 80,000 residents are being offered to boost post-pandemic tourism.
Winners of earlier phases of the giveaway told HKFP that the taxes they were asked to pay were steeper than expected.
Tuesday’s giveaway is the first aimed specifically at residents of Hong Kong, with a second from Hong Kong Airlines scheduled from July 24 until August 25. In April, flagship carrier Cathay Pacific gave away return tickets to those living in the Greater Bay Area.
According to HK Express, the campaign aimed to encourage “persons ordinarily residing in Hong Kong… to experience the joy of travel via flying to worldwide destinations.”
