HKFP Lens: Scenes from Macau shot by Portuguese photojournalist Gonçalo Lobo Pinheiro
Hong Kong Free Press
Portuguese photojournalist Gonçalo Lobo Pinheiro has spent 14 years documenting life in Macau. In his latest book, Urban Poetry, he has collected 100 colour images shot over the past five years, capturing moments lived during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond, and exploring as the territory evolves, 25 years after its transfer from Portuguese to Chinese rule.
“From morning to night, rain or shine, with varying levels of light, these 100 photographs represent my final selection of a vision of the contemporary urban daily life in the territory that welcomed me over 14 years ago,” the photographer said in a statement announcing the release of Urban Poetry in December.
The book features a preface by American photojournalist Andrea Star Reese, in which she describes Pinheiro as “a visual poet.”
Urban Poetry by Gonçalo Lobo Pinheiro is out now.
