Hong Kong gov’t worker dies after ‘insect’ bite on Tai Mo Shan – reports

A Hong Kong man has died after he was reportedly “bitten by something” on Tai Mo Shan, with local media citing sources to report that he worked for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and was bitten by an insect.
A 46-year-old man surnamed Lam was pronounced dead at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on Wednesday after he lost consciousness following a reported insect bite while at Hong Kong’s highest peak.
A police spokesperson told HKFP they had received a report at around 11 am from two men and a woman on Tai Mo Shan. According to the report filed to the police, when the trio reached Mo Tung Lam, Lam said he was “not feeling well” after being “bitten by something.”
By the time rescue personnel arrived at the scene, Lam was already unconscious. He was helicoptered to hospital where he was certified dead at around 1 pm.
Local media cited sources as saying that Lam worked for the AFCD and the incident took place while he was on duty. Some reports stated that Lam had been bitten by ants. Police said they did not have information on that yet.
In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, police said the report they received was filed by Lam’s colleagues. Lam’s cause of death could only be determined after an autopsy, the police added.
