Hong Kong police have made an arrest in connection with a suspected murder after an injured man was found unconscious outside a hospital on Saturday. The man was later pronounced dead.
In a press conference on Monday, police said officers had apprehended a 32-year-old man in Tin Shui Wai. The man, who was unemployed, was believed to have a triad background, said Stephen Tang, a superintendent from the New Territories North Regional Headquarters of the police.
Police received a report at around 5.50 am on Saturday of a man who had collapsed on Po Kin Road, near Sheung Shui’s North District Hospital. The man was rushed to the hospital and certified dead less than an hour later.
On Sunday, police located a dark-coloured car in Pat Heung, Yuen Long, after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers suspected that the car was involved in the alleged murder.
“[Police] believed that this car… was used during the incident,” Tang said in Cantonese. “During the incident, a fake license plate was tacked on, and the car was used to pick up and abandon the body outside the hospital.”
He added that blood stains, as well as a taser, were found inside the car. The evidence had been sent to government departments for testing.
The 32-year-old had been detained, and officers were investigating his relationship with the deceased and any motive for the suspected murder.
Police believe that others involved in the incident are still on the run and appealed for members of the public with information to come forward.
