Hong Kong public transport operator calls on gov’t to follow up after 3 buses given parking tickets at terminus

A Hong Kong bus company has called on the Transport Department to follow up after three buses that were parked within the operations area of a bus terminus were given fixed penalty tickets.
Hong Kong police issued tickets to three Kowloon Motor Bus Company (KMB) buses while they were parked at Mei Tin Bus Terminus in Tai Wai last Thursday, KMB told HKFP last Friday.
According to KMB, the area where the vehicles were parked was within the operations area of the bus terminus, and the buses had not caused any traffic congestion on the site. The company said it had raised the matter with the Transport Department and requested the department to follow up on the issue.
“In terms of operations, bus companies will have to temporarily park the buses at bus termini in between their departure times to cater for bus captains’ rest and meal time,” KMB said in an emailed reply to HKFP’s enquiries.
HKFP has reached out to the Transport Department for comment.
Last Friday, police told HKFP that officers from the Sha Tin Police District conducted an operation to combat traffic violations at a public transport interchange on Heung Fan Liu Street.
A total of eight fixed penalty notices were handed out to vehicles that were “causing obstruction,” including taxis, minibuses and franchised buses, the force said.
