Gergely Gulyás, Chief of Staff of the Hungarian Prime Minister, has called for a ceasefire in the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk Oblast, Russia.

Details: Asked to comment on the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in Kursk Oblast, Gulyás said that the Hungarian government “remains committed to peace”.

“Ukraine is no longer just defending itself but is on the offensive. We want a ceasefire and peace,” he said.

The Hungarian government representative also called on Ukraine and Russia not to forget that they are also responsible for Europe’s energy security. He was referring to the transportation of Russian oil and gas through Ukrainian territory.

The Hungarian government has consistently advocated for a “truce” and “ceasefire” and against providing military assistance to Ukraine, both at the national and EU level.

In early July, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán went on a self-proclaimed “peace mission” to Ukraine, Russia and China, drawing criticism from the EU.
