IAEA accesses Unit 6 at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have finally gained access to Unit 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), temporarily occupied by Russia, after a number of refusals from the Russians.

Quote: “International Atomic Energy Agency experts were yesterday granted access to the reactor hall of unit 6 of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after previously having not been given access. While in the reactor hall, the team observed main components of the reactor, confirming the cold shutdown state of the reactor.”
Details: The experts also visited the power unit’s machine hall, security system rooms and emergency diesel generators.
Background:
- On 12 January, IAEA experts reported that they had not yet received access to the reactor halls of power units No. 1, 2 and 6.
- The IAEA experts are still waiting for access to the reactor roofs scheduled for 19 December, which was not granted due to alleged security concerns.
- Additionally, the IAEA team has not yet received a 2024 maintenance schedule for the nuclear power plant from the occupiers.
