Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, wants to visit Ukraine in August for the first time since the war began.

Details: According to media sources, Modi’s visit to Ukraine is most likely set for 23 August. Several diplomatic sources in Delhi corroborated this.
Earlier this year, Zelenskyy phoned India’s Prime Minister and encouraged him to visit Ukraine.
In June, Modi spoke with Zelensky on the margins of the G7 summit. During the meeting, the parties talked about the situation in Ukraine, and the Indian prime minister emphasised “dialogue and diplomacy.”
Background:
- In early July, on the day of the Russian attack on the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv, Modi visited Russia. At a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Modi urged him to end the war in Ukraine. He told Putin that a solution cannot be found on the battlefield.
- Zelenskyy criticised Modi’s meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, calling it a “devastating blow to peace efforts”. In response, India summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to discuss Zelenskyy’s words.
