Details: According to Tajani, all military equipment sent by Italy is intended for use only in Ukraine.
Quote: “We do not provide equipment that can be used outside Ukraine. We are not at war with Russia,” Tajani said.
When asked about French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent proposal to send NATO soldiers into Ukraine if Russia breaches the Ukrainian defence line and Kyiv makes a request, the Italian minister responded: “I don’t think Macron wants to fight Russia; ask him what he wants to do. NATO makes its own decisions, and we are a member of NATO; we are not at war with Russia, and we oppose sending soldiers to attack them.”
Background:
- During a visit to Kyiv, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated that Ukraine has the right to use weapons provided by London to strike targets on Russian territory “just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine” with weapons from Iran or North Korea.
- Cameron’s statement sparked hysteria in the Russian Foreign Ministry, whose representatives issued threats to London.
