Quote from Bolvinov: “On 30 May 2024, an application was submitted to the police by Oleksandr’s family after he went missing. The police started the investigation. On 29 June, we received information from a passer-by who found a body hung on a rope with signs of suicide near the Sortyrovka district.

Of course, we had to identify the man because he had been there for a long time and it was impossible to visually confirm his identity. There was a note in the pocket, but it was impossible to read it due to the heat. It was likely a suicide note.”

Details: The police collected a DNA sample from Oleksandr’s father and received results that the body matched his father’s DNA. Oleksandr’s family has been informed about it. The police will determine the official cause of death after a forensic examination, but law enforcement believes that the man whose body was found in the forest committed suicide.

Oleksandr Humaniuk, head of a search and rescue unit of the NGO Rose on the Hand, told Suspilne that the search for Lapshyn has been ongoing for a month.

On 29 June, volunteers gathered to search the territory near the man’s residential building and managed to inspect some of it.

“Unfortunately, the body was found by locals, and they called us and told us to come. It was more than a kilometre away from his place of residence. We kept the information silent so that the investigators could work and inform the man’s family,” Humaniuk said.

Suspilne.Kharkiv reports that before the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Lapshyn did not work in the media. In the spring of 2022, he worked as a fixer for Reuters for about a month. He also wrote about the realia of the city of Kharkiv for Ukrainska Pravda. Zhyttia.
