Kazakh oppositionist shot at in Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv: search for assailant ongoing

An unknown individual approached a car and shot at Kazakh oppositionist Aidos Sadikov, who was inside. At the moment law enforcement are taking measures to detain the attacker.

Quote: “The police of the capital received a message on the 102 phone line that shots rang out in the Viktor Yarmola Street. Investigative-operative groups from the Main and District Police Departments were sent to this address.

Preliminarily, members of law enforcement established that an unknown man approached a car in which a man was with his wife, shot at the man and fled. The woman was not injured.”

The issue of providing legal qualifications is being resolved, measures are being taken to establish the identity of the attacker and detain him.

The source of Ukrainska Pravda in law enforcement specified that the man injured in the attack was Kazakh journalist-oppositionist Aidos Sadikov.

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that a pre-trial investigation had been started under Articles 15.2 and 115.1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine due to a premeditated attempt on the life of a citizen of Kazakhstan.

At the moment, 56-year-old Sadikov is in hospital in severe condition.

The attempt was committed not far from the residential building where the couple lives.

For reference: The Sadikov couple moved from Kazakhstan to Kyiv in 2014. Aidos Sadikov stated that he had been criminally prosecuted in Kazakhstan for political reasons.

They obtained a refugee status in Ukraine and led a Youtube channel Бәсе in which they criticised the authorities of Kazakhstan and oligarchs and acted in support of the protest in Kazakhstan in 2022.

In the autumn of 2023 Aidos Sadikov and Natalia Sadikov were put on the wanted list by the Kazakh authorities after being accused of inciting hatred.
