Details: NIS is predominantly owned by Gazprom Neft, which holds a 50% stake, while Gazprom owns a 6.15% share.

On Friday, 10 January, the administration of US President Joe Biden unveiled the largest sanctions package against Moscow to date, targeting Russia’s oil and gas revenues.

The move is aimed at supporting Kyiv and giving the new Donald Trump administration leverage to achieve peace in Ukraine.

“They demand from us a complete exit of Russians from NIS, remove, not reduce,” Vučić said. He added that Belgrade has been given a deadline of 10 March to finalise the deal with Russia.

Background: The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has imposed sanctions on two of Russia’s largest oil companies, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, as well as maritime insurance providers Ingosstrakh and AlfaStrakhovanie.
