Details: Macron discussed sending instructors to Ukraine during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz earlier this week, though neither leader publicly confirmed it.

“According to our information, the French authorities are trying to form a coalition of willing countries to train the Ukrainian military, which is under siege by the Russian army,” the French newspaper writes.

According to Le Monde sources, negotiations on this matter may accelerate in the coming days “with a view to a possible announcement during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to France on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings on 6 and 7 June.”

According to France’s plan, “several hundred specialists from several countries” will arrive in Ukraine to train sappers or “even help in training a new motorised brigade.”

It is believed that certain Baltic countries, as well as the United Kingdom, will join the Paris plan.

Le Monde’s report follows a Reuters story that France may soon send military instructors to Ukraine, despite concerns from some allies and criticism from Russia, media reports indicate.

In mid-May, The New York Times reported that some North Atlantic Alliance members were privately discussing the prospect of deploying military instructors or contractors to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers and assist with equipment repairs.
