Details: Over half of Finns (55%) “somewhat agree” or “completely agree” with the statement that Ukraine could become a “good” member of the EU in the future. Of these, 18% “completely agree,” and 37% “somewhat agree”.

These figures have slightly decreased since 2022, when the survey showed the highest willingness to accept Ukraine into the EU in the future, with nearly 60% support.

Meanwhile, 18% of respondents think that Ukraine will not be ready for EU membership (a combination of “somewhat disagree” and “definitely disagree”), while 27% of respondents were undecided.

Approximately 59% of respondents believe that Ukraine’s accession would lead to significantly higher contributions to the EU budget from Finland and other wealthy countries. Additionally, around 60% think that Ukraine’s EU membership would result in a more mobile workforce, including in Finland.

The data collection was conducted in the spring of 2024, based on responses from 2,087 participants, with a possible margin of error of 2-3 percentage points.

Another major survey across various countries has revealed mixed opinions among Europeans on whether accepting Ukraine into the EU is a “good idea”. A recent survey in Ukraine showed that 70% of Ukrainians hope for Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO by 2030.
