More than half of Ukrainians believe war will last for long time – chart

57% of Ukrainians believe that the war will continue for a long time, and 18% of these believe that the hostilities will last for another year or two, and 17% are convinced that the fighting will last from 2 to 5 years.

Details: 14% believe that the war will end in 6-12 months, and about one in 13 Ukrainians holds a pessimistic forecast that the war will last more than 5 years.
More than a third of respondents could not answer this question.
When compared to previous polls, the smallest number of Ukrainians believed in a quick end to the war (3 to 6 months) in May 2024 (5% compared to 17% in May 2022 and 22% in January 2023).
The number of those who thought the war would end in 3 months in May 2024 was within the margin of error.
The survey was conducted on 8-25 May. A total of 2,508 adult residents of Ukraine were interviewed by telephone based on randomly generated mobile numbers. The sample did not include the temporarily occupied territories as of 23 February 2022 (Crimea and occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts).
Respondents living in the territories that were occupied after 24 February 2022 were interviewed if they felt safe enough to answer the questions.
The sampling error does not exceed 2.2%.
