National Guardsman Mykyta Shaulskyi, whose brother and grandmother were killed in Kryvyi Rih, comes back from Russian captivity

Mykyta Shaulskyi, a serviceman of the 21st Separate Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, has come back from Russian captivity. His younger brother, 12-year-old Maksym, and grandmother Valentyna were killed during a Russian attack on Kryvyi Rih on the night of 20-21 September 2024.

Details: A defender of Mariupol was released from captivity on 18 October 2024, along with 94 other defenders.

12-year-old Maksym actively participated in rallies supporting Ukrainian prisoners of war. He believed in Ukraine’s victory and cared deeply about every defender. 

Maksym and Mykyta’s father is also a serviceman. On the day of the tragedy, he was fighting on the Kherson front.

Background:

  • In total, 95 defenders were brought back to Ukraine on 18 October. They had defended the city of Mariupol and Azovstal steel plant, as well as Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv and Kherson oblasts.
  • Among them is Vladyslav Andrianov, a 28-year-old Azov fighter and the boyfriend of Mariupol police officer Mariana Checheliuk, who was also held captive.
