NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has passionately urged the US Congress to approve supplemental funding for Ukraine as soon as possible, stressing that military support from other allies already exceeds that of the US.

Details: The secretary general acknowledged that European NATO members indeed underinvest in their national defence, though they and Canada have disbursed more funds than the United States in terms of military assistance to Ukraine.
The official added that the absence of a decision by the US Congress on an aid package for Ukraine has a direct impact on the battlefield.
“It’s not just about making the right decisions; it’s about making them proactively and as soon as possible. It’s urgent. Every week we wait, more and more people are killed on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Stoltenberg emphasised.
“It is not me who should advise the US Congress on how to pass laws. All I can say is that the US has a vital and urgent task to decide on a package of assistance to Ukraine because it needs this support,” he added.
The NATO Secretary General stressed that Europe and Canada have assumed their commitment to provide military assistance to Ukraine, “so now it’s time for the US to fulfil its promise”.
Background: This week, the US Senate voted in favour of a package bill that contains US$61 billion for Ukraine. However, the US House of Representatives went on recess until the end of February without voting on the package bill.
