Details: He noted that discussions about supporting Ukraine are now broader than they were at the beginning of the war. In this context, the Latvian president pointed out the dispute in the US Congress, noting that budget discussions in all countries are always difficult.

He also mentioned the EU’s discussion of a €50 billion support package for Ukraine.

Rinkēvičs stressed that Latvia will continue to work to convince all levels of the need to support Ukraine.

“I would like to say once again that I do not have the sense of doom that we hear from one expert or another. But, of course, we will continue to insist that if Ukraine is not supported, this will only create problems in the future that will have to be dealt with more vigorously than now,” he said.

He stressed that Russia’s war against Ukraine will be long and will require a lot of resources, patience and energy.

Background: Earlier, US State Secretary Antony Blinken stated that the suspension of support for Ukraine would allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to continue his aggressive plans with impunity.
