Details: The first resolution on the legal aspects of Russian aggression against Ukraine repeats PACE’s call to create a special tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression.

The second one concerns the role of sanctions in countering Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, calls for the creation of an international compensatory mechanism for those affected by the war, and puts further pressure on Russian manufacturers of weapons and propagandistic media.

The resolution also calls for publishing a register of companies and individuals that violate or evade the sanctions against Russia and support Russia in its war against Ukraine.

The third document, adopted by PACE, is dedicated to countering the eradication of cultural identity during the war and in peaceful times and stresses the genocide committed by Russia in an attempt to destroy the Ukrainian cultural identity.

The resolution stresses that Russia is a sponsor of terrorism, which also exercises the ideology of Ruscism, and Russifies numerous indigenous nations by gradually erasing their cultural identity.

Yevhenia Kravchuk, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, who co-authored the draft of the last resolution, reported that for the first time, the Assembly adopted a separate resolution about culture, in which it recognises the destruction of cultural heritage not only through committing war crimes but also through the process of genocide.

Background:

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is going to adopt a resolution in which it will consolidate the decision of the first Peace Summit held in Switzerland on 15-16 June.
