The publication said a special commission established by the Operational Command of the Armed Forces is investigating the possibility of a Russian drone flying over Poland.

The incident occurred on 26 August, and a ten-day search for the remnants of the aircraft ended unsuccessfully.

The commission has classified the remaining conclusions of its report, the publication says. It is noted that the Polish idea is that outsiders “should not have the ability to determine what could be wrong with the monitoring system or procedures”.

The publication also highlighted that there were two theories regarding the cause of the alert in the country: a meteorological phenomenon or electronic interference (or a system failure).

Background:

  • Following the large-scale missile strikes by Russia on Ukraine on the morning of 26 August, Poland reported an incursion into its airspace by an “aerial object” that was likely a kamikaze drone.
  • Maciej Klisz, the commander of Poland’s Operational Command of the Armed Forces, stated that the target, based on its trajectory, speed, and altitude, was definitely not a missile and was most likely a drone.
  • Polish media, citing sources within the military, reported that they lean towards the version of a Shahed drone, noting that it remained in the country’s airspace for at least 33 minutes.
