Details: Tusk stated that amid the ongoing political crisis involving the arrest of former officials of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, he “proposed a face-to-face meeting with the president as quickly as possible”.

The Polish PM added that during the meeting with Duda, he wants to “discuss the details and nature” of his upcoming visit to Kyiv, which, as Tusk said, is scheduled to take place “in the coming days”.

Quote: “For both of us – with the president actively involved as well – the situation in Ukraine and on the frontlines is the number one issue for Polish security. Other matters also need to be resolved, such as the interests of Polish hauliers. So, we have a lot to discuss in Kyiv,” he emphasised.

“I strongly desire that Ukrainian issues, the war, broader security concerns, and the policy towards Russia be shared. I hope not only the president and the prime minister but the entire Polish state acts in solidarity on these matters,” added Tusk.

Background:

  • In recent months, a series of issues have accumulated in relations between Kyiv and Warsaw, ranging from Poland’s embargo on importing Ukrainian agricultural products to the border blockade by Polish hauliers.
  • Last week, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Ukraine is intensifying contacts with the new Polish government in order to resolve contentious bilateral issues.
