Putin mentions his work in KGB, shows support for LGBT community

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the St Petersburg International Cultural Forum, suddenly mentioned that he had worked in the Committee for State Security (KGB), as well as made a statement in support of the LGBT community.

Details: Putin recalled his past in the KGB, commenting on the ban on Russian television channels in Italy.
Quote: “You asked if we know how it is done. As a former KGB officer, I know how to do it, but we don’t.”
Details: The audience cheerfully greeted his answer with smiles and applause.
In addition, the Russian dictator spoke out in support of representatives of the LGBT community.
Putin initially stated that, as he imagines, to win cultural competitions in the West, it is necessary to “tell, write, show something from the life of sexual minorities, transgenders and some other transformers.”
Quote: “I will say an unexpected thing: they too, these topics and these people have the right to win, show and tell [their stories]. Because this is also a part of society, what people live by. It’s bad if they are the only ones to win all sorts of contests, we don’t need that. But this desire for equality… this equality should be everywhere, in everything – in particular in cultural competitions.”
More details: Russia now has a law banning the so-called LGBT propaganda. This law applies to any statements supportive of the LGBT community.
According to the practice of Russian courts, a citizen who were to speak out in the same way as Putin did at the forum in St Petersburg would be fined up to RUB 200,000 (approx. US$2,238) as a private individual and up to RUB 400,000 (approx. US$4,476) as an official.
In addition, Putin’s speech was made on the same day that the Russian Ministry of Justice appealed to the Supreme Court demanding that the “international LGBT social movement” be recognised as extremist.
For reference: Putin served as a KGB foreign intelligence officer for 16 years, including 6 years in Dresden (Germany).
