Details: The scope of restrictions is distributed evenly across all regions. Power supply to critical infrastructure facilities is not restricted.
It is emphasised that the reason for the restrictions is an increase in electricity consumption during the cold snap. The capacity of Ukrainian power plants is insufficient due to the aftermath of five missile and drone attacks carried out by Russia on the Ukrainian power grid since 22 March, Ukrenergo reported.
“You can get information about how consumption restrictions will be applied in your region in the consumer’s office, on the official websites of oblast distribution system operators, as well as on their social media pages,” the statement said.
Background:
- Starting from 16:00 on 16 May, stabilisation outage schedules will be applied again following the instructions of Ukrenergo.
- Ukraine lacks the power generation capacities and electricity imports to cover consumption, and rolling blackouts were introduced in some oblasts this morning, 16 May.
- Consumer outages that began on 14 May can last until August-September. There will be a shortage in the power system in winter, even at high temperatures, said Yurii Boyko, advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo.
